Ville Propre

Ville Propre is a mobile app designed to simplify the process of reporting urban issues, such as graffiti, overflowing bins, or damaged public property. The core objective of this project was to create a user experience that is intuitive, fast, and highly efficient, encouraging civic participation by making it feel effortless. This case study outlines the key design decisions and principles that guided the development of the app’s user interface and experience.
Used tools:
Role: UX/UI designer

• User Research
• Wireframing
• Logo design
• Prototyping

The Challenge
Urban areas worldwide face common challenges, including inefficient waste management, delayed maintenance for public infrastructure (like potholes and broken streetlights), and a lack of citizen engagement in civic responsibility. Traditional reporting methods are often slow and complex, leading to frustration and apathy among residents.
Effortless Onboarding:
The initial user journey is designed to be seamless. Upon opening the app, users are guided directly to the reporting function. There are no unnecessary menus or complex steps.
Direct User Flow:
The user flow is engineered to be highly efficient and direct:
- Capture the Issue: The app uses the device’s camera to allow users to take a photo of the problem.
- Integrated Mapping: Location data is automatically captured using the device’s GPS, eliminating the need for manual address entry. The user can confirm the location on a map with a single tap.
- Minimal Taps: The entire process is designed to require minimal user interaction, reducing the time and effort it takes to submit a complaint.
Clarity and Simplicity:
We prioritized a clear, unambiguous interface. Every button, icon, and text field is designed to be self-explanatory, ensuring that even a first-time user can report an issue without confusion or frustration.
The Solution: The "Ville Propre" Application
The “Ville Propre” application provides a simple and effective solution to these problems. Its core features are designed to empower citizens and streamline municipal operations:
Real-Time Reporting:
Users report issues by taking photos; the app geotags them, providing municipalities with precise, real-time data on problems like potholes or trash.
Gamified User Engagement:
To incentivize participation, users earn points for every report, which are redeemable for gifts. This makes a civic duty a rewarding activity, encouraging consistent use.
Encouraging Waste Segregation:
The app promotes better waste management by allowing users to order colored bags for at-home sorting. This encourages recycling and proper waste segregation right from the source.
Style Guide
Color Palette
The color #84bd4d is a shade of green that is perfect for the “Ville Propre” app. Green universally represents nature, cleanliness, and the environment, directly aligning with the app’s mission.
In a user interface, it also signifies positivity and success, making it an ideal choice for confirming a successfully submitted report.
